Leroy Sane's Man Utd comments speak volumes as Red Devils make transfer enquiry

Manchester United's tranfer window has hardly gone to plan so far and they are unlikely to get any joy out of pursuing former Manchester City favourite Leroy Sane.

The ex-Etihad star spent four years under the guidance of Pep Guardiola before joining Bavarian giants Bayern Munich in 2020, but that hardly means he doesn't still harbour plenty of loyalty to his old side. United are now led by Erik ten Hag, who is keen on adding another attacker to his side before the transfer window's close later this month.

The Red Devils are understood to have Sane on their transfer wishlist and may have actually had their chances slightly boosted by the exit of Liverpool legend Sadio Mane. The Senegal international's arrival at the Allianz Arena has led to question marks over how much game time Sane will enjoy for Bayern this season.

With that being said, even if Sane does start to ponder his options elsewhere, previous comments made by the forward suggest he wouldn't dare don the United shirt at any stage of his career. This isn't actually the first time the Red Devils have been linked with a shock move for the German.

Prior to his City exit, bookmakers had slashed odds on Sane making the short trip across the city to play for United. The rumours were met with an emphatic response from the man himself, who insisted: "That won't happen! That won't happen (joining United), that won't happen at all. I am really happy here and I'm on the right side!"

Ten Hag's admiration for Sane stems from the wide-man's time at City. His previous Premier League experience means there would be little to no adjustment period for the 26-year-old and he could make an impact from the moment he joins.

United's new boss was expected to oversee plenty of change during his first window at the helm, but as of yet has only signed three players. Pressed on whether he'd have liked more before the opening game of the season, Ten Hag confessed: "That would be a good situation. But I have a squad and I'm happy with the squad."

Opening up on the recruitment process, Ten Had added that while he has targets he is also happy with the players he currently has at his disposal.

"It's about the right players and there are many but I cannot give comments about a player who is under contract in another club," the United boss continued.

"When we have news, we will bring it. You work with the current squad and then you develop players who are in your current squad. In this moment, there are players in that position and they perform really well."
