Leona Maguire labelled 'a Brit' by Sky Sports pundit as she leads KPMG Women's PGA Championship

Irish star Leona Maguire has been labelled a 'Brit' by a Sky Sports pundit as she leads at the midway stage of the PGA Championship.

Fresh from her second LPGA victory last week at the Meijer LPGA Classic, the Cavan woman has been in stunning form this week and leads on five-under par after two rounds of play.

Englishwoman Mel Reid is one shot behind and is Leona's closest challenger at this stage and is just one shot behind the 28-year-old.

After praising Leona's performance so far this week and looking ahead to a possible showdown between Maguire and Reid, Sky Sports pundit Trish Johnson said: "It is fabulous. it is fab. We have got two Brits up there."

Of course this isn't the first time Irish athletes have been referred to as British by the broadcaster. Shane Lowry was labelled as such after his 2019 Open win, while Katie Taylor has received that same treatment on a number of occasions.

As for Maguire, all she can do is focus on her golf. She begins her third round at 6:45pm this evening as she looks to move one step closer to bringing the trophy back home to Cavan.
