Leona Maguire captures second LPGA Tour title after blistering final round at Meijer Classic

Leona Maguire captured her second LPGA Tour title after a stunning final round to win the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan.

The Cavan woman came into the day 13-under-par, two shots behind leader Amy Yang, and produced one of the best rounds of her professional career to snatch victory.

Maguire stayed patient early on in her final round, carding seven pars on the front nine but had birdies on the fifth and seventh holes but had a back nine to remember as she played her final six holes in six-under par to shoot a stunning eight-under-par 64.

The 28-year-old birdied the par three 13th and hit a stunning eagle on the par five 14th to swing momentum her way and the world number 20 birdied the last three holes to win the tournament, finishing two shots ahead of Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn.

And victory will taste even sweeter for Maguire as she was beaten by Jeniffer Kupcho in a play-off in the same tournament a year ago.

Maguire will earn $375,000 (€342,000) for her victory and will also receive a healthy boost in the world rankings after the win.
