Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted it was "surprising" that Jack Harrison was "available" when asked about his side's failed move to sign the Leeds United man.
Reports have emerged that Harrison was halfway through a medical at Leicester City on deadline day before Leeds seemingly decided to change their minds over their desire to sell the attacking midfielder. It is now understood that the Whites have matched the wage offer put forward by the Foxes ahead of the 11pm deadline - a move that reportedly caused Harrison to return to Elland Road on deadline day.
With just 18 months left on his current deal, Leeds appear to have now come to the realisation that they will be better off keeping hold of the former New York City star. Rather than allowing Harrison to move to a relegation rival and strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season, Jesse Marsch will be hoping for the 26-year-old to provide more moments of magic like his wonder-strike vs Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup last week.
As the dust settles on a hectic winter window, Rodgers has now been asked about his side's attempted move for the Leeds star, with the Leicester boss admitting that he got as far as meeting Harrison before the deal collapsed.
“It was surprising that the player was going to be available," Rodgers told the media when asked about Harrison. "I met him and spoke to him. It’s something that didn’t happen. Other than that, I’m really happy with the players we brought in. We’ll go with the players we have.”
