Legionella bacteria was detected in a cooling system connected to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner's office near downtown Los Angeles, and one county employee has tested positive for Legionnaires' disease, NBC Los Angeles reported. The bacteria was found during maintenance in May 2026, and employees in the affected buildings were notified later in the year.
County health officials said they have not found any other cases. "To date, no additional cases have been identified with shared common exposures to this individual," a Los Angeles County Department of Public Health spokesperson said. Public Health did not say where the employee works or describe the employee's condition.
