NEW DELHI: Legendary Australian Olympic champion shooter, Russell Mark, who had famously guided former union sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to the double trap silver at the Athens Games in 2004, will join the Indian shooting as the new trap coach. The sports ministry has approved his appointment, TOI has learnt.
Russell will not travel to India alone. His Olympian wife Lauryn Mark, an American-Australian women's skeet shooter, will join him as Indian shotgun's high-performance manager. Six-time Olympian, Peru's Juan Giha, who won silver in 1992 Barcelona Games in men's skeet, will be the country's new skeet coach. All three will begin their coaching stints in April. Their first assignment with the country's shooters will be the Shotgun World Cup in Italy's Lonato from April 19 to 29.
