Legendary rock band closes Las Vegas Strip residency and retires

As 2024 comes to an end, several Las Vegas Strip residencies have also been closing at several hotel-casino theaters.

Wynonna Judd just finished her Greatest Hits Anniversary Tour residency in Apollo Global Management's (APO) Venetian Theater at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas with a final show on Dec. 14.

One of the biggest residencies on the Strip over the last two years was Adele's "Weekends With Adele" residency, which opened on Nov. 18, 2022, and closed on Nov. 23. 2024, at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace after 100 shows.

Wrapping up residencies in upcoming days will be classic 1980s rockers Duran Duran, who perform their final two shows of their residency at BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau on Dec. 29 and 30.

Bruno Mars finishes Vegas residency

Superstar singer Bruno Mars finishes up his residency at MGM Resorts International's Dolby Live at Park MGM on Dec. 21, 27, 30, and 31. Very few tickets remain for the performances which are over 90% sold out.

Mars, who operates his own club Pinky Ring at Bellagio, will likely return to the Strip at his club or another resort casino.

Rock star Lenny Kravitz closed his first-ever Las Vegas Strip residency with five shows that concluded on Oct. 26 at MGM's Dolby Live at Park MGM. Kravitz has not indicated if he will return for another residency.

REO Speedwagon closes Las Vegas Strip residency

Classic rock band REO Speedwagon will close its Las Vegas Strip residency and retire from touring when the music stops and lights go up at the Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Resort on Dec. 21.

The legendary band revealed on Sept. 16, 2024, on its website that due to irreconcilable differences between band members Kevin Cronin and Bruce Hall, REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective Jan. 1, 2025.

The band said their goodbye to the road in a message on the website:

"To our fans: Bruce has intended to be Back On the Road Again by now. If it were up to just him, he’d be back on tour… but it’s not up to just him. The consensus opinion was that he had not recovered sufficiently to be able to perform at the level the fans have come to expect. Bruce respected that opinion and is grateful that Matt has been around to keep the Wagon rolling through the summer tour. Bruce never had any intention of retiring or walking away from the band, fans, and crew he has loved for almost 50 years," the messages read.

"For Kevin’s part, he too has never had any intention of leaving the band, and the fans and crew mean the world to him, as well."

"Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin. So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025. Neal, Kevin, and Bruce thank their fans for all their years of loyal support and for giving back to the band such wonderful memories that will remain with each of them forever."

While the message said that the band would "cease touring," it did not say whether the band would cease performing together. The band could regroup for one-off concerts or Las Vegas residencies, but the message wasn't clear whether the band would get back together for future concerts.
