A famous music lover is being treated in a Swansea burns unit after he was seriously injured in a fire. Messages of support have flooded in for Jeff Johns — widely known as Big Jeff — who is legendary for his passionate dancing at Bristol gigs.
A statement posted to Jeff's Twitter page on Monday said he had been "very seriously injured" in a fire at his Totterdown home, adding: "He is in a specialist burns unit in Swansea in a stable condition. His family have asked for people to keep Jeff in their thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.”
The post prompted hundreds of supportive messages, including Cardiff-based music page Minty's Gig Guide writing: "Saying a little prayer for Big Jeff Johns tonight. I know I’m not the only one. I hope to get a massive cuddle from him one day soon. It truly is like being hugged by a gentle giant. And not forgetting a schooling on what gigs are going to be OFF THE CHART. Love you man x."
Jeff, who attends a gig almost every night, often receives mid-performance shout-outs from bands who recognise the beloved 6ft 4ins figure headbanging in the crowd. Reacting to the news of his injuries, indie pop band Metronomy tweeted: "Get well soon Jeff and lots of love to the John’s family."
The 39-year-old is also an artist who launched an exhibition last year in Bristol. The 'Welcome To My World' exhibition featured 34 artworks to challenge perceptions of anxiety.
Friends of Jeff have made a playlist on Spotify called ‘Play a record for Big Jeff’. Some 378 songs have already been added for the music lover to listen to during his recovery. You can read more of the latest news on WalesOnline here.
