ZZ Top cancels shows after legendary drummer Frank Beard’s death

  • Frank Beard, the longtime drummer for the iconic Texas rock trio ZZ Top who provided the backbeat for major hits such as Sharp Dressed Man , Legs , and Gimme All Your Lovin', has died at the age of 77.
  • Beard died Tuesday while in hospice care at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by family members, as confirmed by publicist Bob Merlis.
  • ZZ Top co-founder Billy Gibbons honored Beard as a naturally innovative drummer and confirmed that the band will continue to perform and tour as Beard had wished. However, the band has canceled its shows in Salt Lake City and Colorado Springs following Beard’s death.
  • Throughout Beard’s six-decade career with ZZ Top , the band sold over 50 million records, earned three Grammy Award nominations, and secured six No. 1 singles on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.
  • In the 2019 documentary ZZ Top: That Little Ol' Band from Texas , Beard expressed his deep dedication to his bandmates, noting that he found the people he was meant to play with and never wanted to leave.
