Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites told to lower Helder Costa asking price

Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours on Wednesday, February 16.

Leeds told Costa price

Leeds United have been told to lower the asking price if they are to sell Helder Costa in the summer.

The 28-year-old is currently out on loan at Valencia and the Spanish club has eyes on making his move permanent.

Having signed Daniel James for £25million from Manchester United, Leeds may be looking to offload Costa as he would struggle for regular game time upon his return at the end of the season.

After a slow start during his time in La Liga, Costa has become a key figure at Valencia, making 15 league appearances this term, registering one assist.

ElDesmarque Valencia have reported that Valencia now want to make the move permanent after his up turn in form.

The report details that Valencia have 'some with a purchase option, others without it and others with an unattainable price' and Leeds' Costa valuation falls into the latter category.

Chelsea set sights on Phillips

Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to 90min.com have claimed that the Blues have kept a 'close eye' on the 26-year-old, while Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United have also expressed an interest.

The report explains the pressure is on the Whites to sort out a new deal for the England international before the transfer window opens in the summer.

Phillips is currently out injured and has been a huge miss to Leeds, who currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, just six points above the relegation zone.

After impressing for England at Euro 2020, Phillips has attracted attention from Champions League clubs and could depart the club depending on whether he signs a new contract.

Leeds 'could have signed' O'Brien

Leeds United would have signed Lewis O'Brien from Huddersfield Town in the summer transfer window if they were willing to spend more money.

That's according to journalist David Anderson, who has reported that the Terriers were going to allow O'Brien to leave should the right offer had come their way.

The Whites failed to make any signings in January which left some supporters frustrated given their injury situation and thin squad, with Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford all still out.

Brenden Aaronson was also heavily linked with a move to Leeds in January, however, Red Bull Salzburg supposedly rejected a second bid of upto £20million and weren't willing to let him leave before their Champions League last-16 clash with Bayern Munich.

There's no doubt the Whites wanted to sign another midfielder but they failed to strike a deal with Aaronson and O'Brien, but Anderson has provided the latest on a potential move for the latter.

When asked about Leeds' bid to sign O'Brien, Anderson told GiveMeSport: "It was a strange one at the time because Leeds could have got him if they had have offered that little bit more."
