Leeds United transfer rumours as Whites 'priced out' in race for in-demand striker

Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours on Friday, January 21.

Leeds priced out of Brereton move

Leeds United are set to be priced out on a move for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz.

The Mirror have reported that West Ham United, Leeds and Sevilla are all interested in the forward, however, the Hammers are the only club who could be willing to match Blackburn's £25million price tag.

The Whites have been linked with signing the 24-year-old in the transfer window following his terrific start to the Championship this season where he has scored 21 goals in 25 appearances.

Tony Mowbray, however, has not ruled out a move for Brereton Diaz amid interest from the Premier League, although Rovers seem to want to keep him as they push for promotion.

West Ham are searching a striker to support Michail Antonio up front, while Leeds have struggled with injuries in attacking areas, with Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts currently out at the moment.

McLeish on Leeds' transfer business

Former Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish believes that Leeds United need to sign players who are ready to come straight into the first-team and improve the starting XI.

This is after it was reported that the Whites had a bid rejected for USA international Brenden Aaronson, with Red Bull Salzburg hoping to keep the midfielder this month.

Aaronson isn't the only player to be linked with a move to Elland Road, however, with Nicola Raskin and John Swift also tipped for a move to the Whites in the January transfer window.

"If you’re bringing a player in on a whim and saying: 'I think he could be quite good,' then that is risky business at that high level," McLeish told Football Insider.

"It’s the same at any in any high-level business. You have to get guys who are better than you have at the moment.

"Not bringing somebody in for the squad but someone better than who’s playing in the starting XI.

"If Leeds are going to be doing business with the Austrians, they have to do their homework, 100 per cent."

Leeds dealt Raskin boost

Leeds United have been dealt a boost in their reported pursuit of signing Standard Liege midfielder Nicola Raskin.

This is after Belgian outlet RTBF.be claimed the club could be willing to let him leave this month amid reported interest from the Whites.

In their 'What to expect in January', they state: "In addition to the worrying situations of Maxime Lestienne and Mehdi Carcela, the Rouches could well let go of Nicolas Raskin who enjoys a good rating abroad or Samuel Bastien.

"A new arrival in the Liège midfielder would therefore not be ruled out in the coming days."

Raskin's possible arrival would change that statistic and he could be an astute addition for the Whites given the reputation he's build in Liege.

The Belgium Under 21 international has featured in 18 Jupiler Pro League games this term, chipping in with two assists to add to the six direct goal contributions in 32 appearances during the 2020/21 season.
