Leeds United transfer rumours as Tottenham Hotspur urged to target Whites star Raphinha

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Tuesday, 22 February 2022.

Tottenham urged to target Raphinha

Tottenham Hotspur have been told that they should be among the clubs circling Leeds United winger Raphinha if he does not sign a new contract or the Whites are forced to sell him.

The Brazil international has been a shining light in a trying campaign for Leeds and consequently, has been linked with a move to several of Europe's heavyweights.

Spurs reportedly had a bid rejected for Luis Diaz in the January transfer window and the winger eventually joined Liverpool.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke has told GiveMeSport that Conte's side should turn their attention to Raphinha if the Brazilian's long-term future at Elland Road is not secured.

He said: "Raphinha is similar to Diaz. He’s a match-winner who can create goals and score goals as well.

"I think if Leeds are unable to tie him down to a new contract or forced to sell him, Spurs should be right in there along with all those other top clubs."

Mills delivers verdict on Corberan as potential Bielsa successor

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has claimed it feels as if Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan would be a 'gamble' if appointed as Marcelo Bielsa's replacement.

There has been no confirmation that Bielsa's departure from Elland Road is imminent but his contract does expire at the end of the season.

The Telegraph have claimed former RB Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch is the Leeds' first choice should Bielsa leave but have also claimed Corberan will be among the candidates.

The current Terriers boss has previously worked for Leeds as head of the under-23s and as a coach with the first-team, therefore the Whites are very familiar with what he brings to the table.

Mills told Football Insider : "Carlos Coberan is doing okay at Huddersfield but it still feels like that would be a gamble. He feels like the backup option if they can’t get who they want or get relegated.

"But if Huddersfield get promoted, would he want to continue that job with the players that he has developed?"

Leeds told to cut losses and offload Costa

Leeds United have been told to cut their losses and offload winger Helder Costa, who is currently on loan at Spanish side Valencia.

The 28-year-old made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Whites last season but was allowed to depart on a temporary basis on the final day of the 2021 summer transfer window.

He has failed to set La Liga alight with Valencia and Leeds have been urged to cash in on the Angola international.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke told GiveMeSport : "I think Leeds need to cut their losses, see what money they can get in for him and use that to maybe strengthen the squad elsewhere, because Helder Costa doesn’t figure in the plans of Bielsa going forward, so it makes sense for all parties to move on."
