Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours on Thursday, February 3.
Nigeria star confirms Leeds’ January interest
Leeds’ pursuits of Brenden Aaronson and Takumi Minamino in the January transfer window show that they were in the market for attacking reinforcements.
A move for the latter may well have been explored due to the potential of Crysencio Summerville leaving on loan in the last few days of the month.
While Marcelo Bielsa already has plenty of wide midfielders at his disposal, an interesting update from Nigerian outlet CKD Media suggests he wanted to add more to his ranks.
FC Nantes forward Moses Simon claimed that he was the subject of interest from Elland Road.
He said: “Yes, it is true, my agent told me about some offers among all is Leeds United who came calling with a strong offer and well intention of sealing the deal immediately.”
Leeds expected to return as ‘big hitters’ in the summer
The Whites were unable to bring anyone to the club during January with no viable, affordable options presenting themselves to Victor Orta and his recruitment team.
They were unsuccessful in a couple of approaches for Aaronson and are likely to revisit the saga when the window reopens in the summer.
Leeds have often done the majority of their business at the end of the season under Bielsa and looks to be the case once again with transfer insider Dean Jones expecting big things.
“They have huge ambition and they’re going to be big hitters, they feel, in the transfer market, maybe from the summer,” he told GiveMeSport.
“They certainly will be by this time next year. They think they can be going for some big names, but they couldn’t really buy those players in January.”
Leeds must spend to keep best players, says Palmer
This summer already seems like it could be pivotal in Leeds’ Premier League future and before then, the club will be desperate to tie both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha down to new contracts.
Carlton Palmer believes that the two Whites aces will only be tempted into agreeing deals if plans are in place to spend big before the start of next season.
In his interview with GiveMeSport after the transfer window closed, the former Leeds midfielder said: “Kalvin's done well. He's injured but the top clubs are going to be looking at him.
“Raphinha's been brilliant for Leeds, clubs are going to be looking at them and, unfortunately for Leeds, they're in that position where they don't want to end up being a feeder club for the top clubs so therefore, they've got to invest heavily in the transfer market and keep progressing.
“If they don't, then they're going to lose their better players."
