Leeds United transfer rumours as Jack Harrison contract talks 'expected' after Leicester interest

Here are the Leeds United transfer news and rumours on Thursday, February 2.

Jesse Marsch to have 'expected' Jack Harrison contract talks after exit interest

It seems after constant pressure from multiple Premier League rivals to sell midfield star Jack Harrison in the January transfer window, Leeds United and Jesse Marsch might finally be offering him a new and improved deal.

Leicester City and Newcastle United were the two sides over the last two windows to have an active interest in the 26-year-old with both being very persistent in their attempts to acquire his services.

Writing for the Athletic, Phil Hay pointed out that the Leicester negotiations went all the way to the wire on deadline day, and highlighted to Leeds that they might eventually be on the losing end of the deal if they don't tie him down soon.

"While Raphinha and Phillips were used to fund last summer, Leeds avoided losing Jack Harrison yesterday despite concerted interest from Leicester City running right to the last hour of the deadline. More contract talks with Harrison are expected soon."

Leeds United loanee highlighted by Blackpool manager

Blackpool manager Mick McCarthy has highlighted Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda as a player that can help save his side from relegation this season.

The 22-year-old has been a vital part of the Seasiders side after the winter break and the new boss believes that they must utilise him to his strengths if they want to stay in the Championship.

"I think he wasn’t that consistent and I don’t think he’d been that good and it can be difficult with loan players, McCarthy told Lancashire Live.

"They come in and if they’re not playing, they think ‘why should I be here?’ and it affects the performance. I think when they went to Spain, he’s really knuckled down and what I’ve seen of him in training is different class.

"He really is a good footballer. He’s got a lot to offer us."
