Leeds United have identified preferred targets as the January transfer window approaches, Jesse Marsch has confirmed. The Whites haven’t always been willing to dip into the January transfer window in the past and they have opted against making winter additions to the first-team since their promotion to the Premier League.
Mateo Joseph, who made his Premier League debut on Saturday against Tottenham, was the club’s only signing last January, despite being in a relatively precarious position in the league table and before then, United’s last mid-season recruit was Jean-Kevin Augustin, while they were still in the Championship. However, despite bringing in nine players over the summer window, Leeds still have holes to fill and it seems they will be active when the transfer window opens on New Year’s Day.
Marsch’s side currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, two points above the relegation zone, and the threat of another relegation battle is beginning to loom large. As such, there will be external pressure when they return from the winter break and enter the first month of 2023 to add to their squad in a number of key areas of the field and do all they can to ensure their survival.
