Leeds United told what it would take to sign England under-19 star Alex Scott

Leeds United have been told it will take a “big, big, big offer” in order to persuade Bristol City to part with their most promising young talent Alex Scott. The Whites were linked with a move for Scott earlier this year at the end of the 18-year-old’s eye-catching breakthrough season at Ashton Gate.

Leeds have made it their business to pursue the brightest young talent the game has to offer and the club were one of several top flight outfits linked to his signature by the Mirror. Tottenham Hotspur were also credited with interest while West Ham, Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion have been linked since.

Bristol, though, have no intentions of letting Scott, who is currently away with England at the Under-19 European Championship finals, leave on the cheap.

“When top young talent is performing well then the big clubs look. We’re not daft and we know that,” the Robins’ academy boss Brian Tinnion told BBC Radio Bristol. “But he’s contracted to the football club, he’s got three years here.

“We want to keep our best players to build on what we’re doing for the future. I’m sure it would have to take a big, big, big offer for Alex Scott to get anywhere.”

Scott made his Bristol debut back in 2020, but really managed to establish himself last season, making 38 appearances as he made the success jump into senior football. His outings came in a number of positions across the midfield and he managed to bag four goals along the way.

The Whites are close to completing the signing of Darko Gyabi from Manchester City for a fee of around £5million and he is expected to be the club’s first under-21 signing of the summer. In previous transfer windows Leeds have been active when it comes to the recruitment of youngsters and they have been linked with moves for George Hall at Birmingham City and Sonny Perkins at West Ham United.

However, recruitment has been focused on the first-team so far this summer, with the three signings made all completed with the intention of improving Jesse Marsch’s senior ranks.
