Leeds United told how 'massive plus' can compensate for Adam Forshaw injury blow

On his appointment as Leeds United head coach, Jesse Marsch inherited a squad that had struggled with injury issues all season. This has continued since the American took the reins and Adam Forshaw is one of the most recent of those, as the midfielder was ruled out for the season when he fractured his knee-cap in training before the Crystal Palace match on Monday night.

However, Marsch was able to return Kalvin Phillips to the starting line-up for the first time since December at Palace, and Leeds were able to take a clean-sheet and a point away from their trip to the capital. Leeds have been told whilst Forshaw 'has been one of their best players' that the positive of Phillips' return to full-fitness will compensate for the disappointment of losing the Liverpudlian.

Ex- Leeds striker Noel Whelan told Football Insider: "It’s disappointing because we could have done with both Phillips and Forshaw. But now Kalvin is going to really have to step up and perform for these last games of the season. Everyone knows what is required of them, and Kalvin being back is a massive plus no matter how you look at it."

Until the game against Palace, Phillips had not featured since a 2-2 draw against Brentford in the middle of December. He was forced to undergo surgery on his hamstring after tearing it early in the second half against the Bees. Meanwhile, Forshaw has re-established himself in Leeds' first-team after a two year struggle with a hip injury.
