Leeds United target spells out his desire for move as Whites can repeat Wilfried Gnonto trick

Leeds United supporters may have their focus firmly on this season and the quest to stay in the Premier League, but behind the scenes at Elland Road they know they cannot afford to stand still. That's why amid a backdrop of uncertainty surrounding which division the club will be playing in next season or who will be the manager, Leeds are exploring their transfer options.

One of the players believed to be on the radar is 23-year-old Italy striker Mateo Retegui. Argentine-born, the Boca Juniors player who is on loan to fellow Argentinian side Tigre, has been linked with Leeds in the past few days.

It is reported that Retegui is also being chased by AC Milan, Inter Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt as well as Leeds, with the striker's stock rising further after Roberto Mancini picked him for the national squad during the recent international break.

The centre-forward, who is currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors, has scored seven times in 10 appearances for the Argentinian side and is starting to earn a name for himself.

Asked about his future, journalist Fabrizio Romano says the player has made his feeling clear with the following statement; "My next club will be in Europe. I’d love to try an experience in Serie A but no idea yet, my dad is taking care of that."

Given his Italian national team desires, a switch to Serie A would make sense, but should Leeds wish to pursue the player, an option to play up front alongside fellow Italian Wilfried Gnonto in the Premier League would also hold an attraction.
