Leeds United talisman Tyler Adams handed USA honour

Tyler Adams has earned the United States national team’s male player of the year award. Former American coach Gregg Berhalter named the Leeds United man as captain ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

That move paid dividends, with Adams putting in several stellar displays before USA crashed out in the last 16. The combative midfielder earned plaudits for his performances against England in the group stage.

The Three Lions were held to a 0-0 draw by Adams and Co, despite entering the game as overwhelming favourites. Leeds have also been the beneficiary of the 23-year-old’s ability since his summer switch from RB Leipzig.

Tasked with filling the void left by Kalvin Phillips, Adams has adapted to life seamlessly at Elland Road. Jesse Marsch coached his compatriot at RB Leipzig and wasted no time reuniting with him in Yorkshire.

Adams won a staggering 71.6% of the vote - easing to victory by a landslide. In second place was Chelsea misfit Christian Pulisic (14.7%) who, ironically, has also been linked with Leeds.

The voting was conducted by the USSF board of directors and athletes council, the MLS, head coaches, media, former players and administrators. Fans, whose ballots were weighted at 15%, were also given a say.
