Leeds United supporters tip Uruguay for World Cup success under Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United supporters believe Uruguay are among one of the contenders for the next World Cup title under former Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentinian head coach has been out of a job since leaving Elland Road over a year ago and has been linked with a number of high profile jobs.

There have been a number of calls from a contingent of Whites' supporters throughout the season to see Bielsa return to Leeds to save them from their troubles, but those hopes have been dashed after his recent appointment. The 67-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal running until the 2026 World Cup, with the South American qualifiers beginning in September, with La Celeste beginning their campaign against Chile, another of Bielsa's former sides.

The former Whites boss had held talks with Everton and Bournemouth earlier this year but a move back to the Premier League would not come to fruition. The Leeds United Championship winning boss is still held in such high regard in Yorkshire and supporters have taken to social media to wish him well.

James Platt said: "How long will it last if he doesn't get what he wants?"

@Twit1Gab said: "It will be interesting to see how he manages a national team as it will be difficult to enforce the same strict regime he could at club level."

@GaronPearce tweeted: "All the best boss"

@MintAndrews said: "I fancy them for the next World Cup."

@Vegansmithsfan tweeted: "Marcelo Bielsa a most humble, principled man. A great coach too. Adored as Leeds United manager, and still missed by many, many Leeds fans. Viva Marcelo Bielsa."
