Leeds United lost the second game of the pre-season tour of Australia after Danny Ings’ penalty gave Aston Villa a 1-0 win. In a friendly that was anything but, the two sides reignited old needle in a game that was littered with late tackles, aggression and some questionable officiating.
Ings slotted home Villa’s second penalty of the night after a handball was awarded against Leif Davis. He fared better that Phillipe Coutinho in the first half, with the Brazilian having both penalty and rebound saved by Illan Meslier after a supposed handball by Tyler Adams.
The match was overshadowed by a nasty-looking injury to teenage sensation Archie Gray who was forced off on a stretcher after a vicious tackle by John McGin, with the last 20 minutes petering out.
And after the final whistle, Leeds fans took to Twitter to share their reaction to the result.
@LunchTodd tweeted: There's a chance it might click at some point, but so far, I've yet to see anything that suggests we won't be in another relegation battle. Sloppy passing, and zero efficiency in the final third. #lufc
@PaulBlakemore11 said: Let’s hope and pray that the injury to Archie Gray is not as bad as it seemed. Will we ever have officials that understand the game?? #lufc
@steveknight71 tweeted: Only a couple of real chances created but decent performances from Meslier, Roca, Koch and a decent cameo from Summerville at the end. Worries about Rodrigo who looks woefully out of place. Terrible challenge from McGinn on Gray brought about by poor refereeing throughout #lufc
@AndrewFirth21 said: Lots of positives to take from that game, no more so than hope Archie Gray is okay #lufc
@jaxonlufc tweeted: Not too concerned after that, good and bad but overall pretty decent, hope Archies injury isn't as bad as it looked. #lufc
