Manchester United have reached an agreement with Ajax to sign Brazilian winger Antony for a fee in the region of £85 million. Antony is set to become Man United’s third most expensive signing of all time behind both Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.
The 22-year-old will also be Dutch football’s most expensive ever sale, eclipsing Frenkie de Jong, whose move from Ajax to Barcelona in 2020 was number one. And Antony is not the only winger to make the switch from the Eredivisie to the Premier League this summer.
Leeds United completed the signing of Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord in July in a deal said to be worth around £21 million. That is nearly a quarter of the fee in which their rivals from across the Pennines paid for Antony, but when their individual statistics from last season are analysed, it is difficult to see why there is such a difference.

Antony made 23 league appearances for league title winners Ajax, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. Sinisterra on the other hand played 30 times for third place Feyenoord, netting 12 goals and registering seven assists.
Leeds fans have certainly been quick to point out that fact to Man United fans on Twitter in recent days following the completion of their deal for Antony. Here is a look at a select few of those tweets.
