Leeds United support asked to 'unburden' players of tension in survival finales by Angus Kinnear

Supporters are being called upon to create an atmosphere which allows Leeds United’s players to play without the burden of the pressure naturally attached to matches which could relegate their club. Angus Kinnear has addressed fans in his final programme notes of the season ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion’s visit to Elland Road.

While the chief executive admits this has been a campaign endured rather than enjoyed, Kinnear does not believe there has been a single moment the team’s spirit or commitment could have been questioned. Supporters were also praised for their backing and asked to now relieve the players of the tension they might ordinarily feel.

“While this season has been one we have had to endure rather than enjoy, I don’t think there is a minute of any one of our matches where anyone could doubt the spirit or commitment of the team,” said Kinnear. “Equally, there has not been a point where the support inside Elland Road or on our travels has wavered.

“We now only have 180 minutes left to remain united and create an environment where the team can play unburdened by the tension that can naturally haunt such critical fixtures, and simply be inspired by the most vocal support in the league.”
