Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto says he 'owes a lot' to Inter Milan after spending eight years in their academy before joining FC Zurich.
Gnonto joined Inter's youth ranks at the age of nine in 2012 after previous spells at Baveno and Suno respectively. He scored 10 goals in 20 matches for the under-17s across all competitions, and lifted the Italian Supercoppa and Italian Youth Championship with them in 2019.
He added a further three goals in six games for the under-18s, before registering one goal and two assists in 12 outings for the under-19s. He swapped Italy for Switzerland with a move to FC Zurich in 2020, but in a recent interview with Gazetta [via Football Italia]., Gnonto has emphasized the importance of his spell at Inter.

“I owe a lot to Inter, I spent eight crucial years of my career there. It would be a great honour to face them one day. The sporting project is always my priority and I take every decision depending on it," Gnonto said.
The teenager became the youngest ever goal scorer for the Italian national team with a consolation goal in a 5-2 defeat against Germany in the UEFA Nations League in June 2022.
Gnonto notched 12 goals and 10 assists in 74 appearances in all competitions for Zurich, and won the Swiss Super League title last season. He has made a strong start to life at Elland Road with three goals and one assist in 12 matches in total.
