Leeds United's pitch-perfect response to West Ham fan Mark Wright's pre-match boast

It is fair to say that everyone involved with Leeds United thoroughly enjoyed the 3-2 win against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

The supporters and players were able to show their elation at the result at the London Stadium but the club’s media team chose a different platform.

On the official Twitter account, they mocked a claim made by reality TV mercenary and Hammers fan Mark Wright.

Before the match, the two-time Crawley Town left-back posted a video to his Instagram story saying: “About to watch West Ham pump Leeds all over the shop.”

His optimism was, of course, clearly misplaced as he watched Jack Harrison run the show in east London, netting a hat-trick to inspire the Whites to a vital victory.

The club’s media team took less than 24 hours to embarrass Wright by posting the below video on Twitter paired with the theme tune from the aptly-named TV show, 'Curb your Enthusiasm'.

After the match, he admitted error in judgement by saying: “If you ever wondered what the meaning of having egg on your face is, just go back and look at my first [Instagram] story today.

“West Ham let me down, they didn’t pump Leeds. I wouldn’t say Leeds pumped us but, still, I look like a complete mug with what I said earlier.”

Incidentally, Wright actually achieved something that David Moyes’ side couldn’t manage on Sunday, a win against Leeds.

In his first appearance as a professional footballer, the 34-year-old was introduced from the bench in the 90th minute of the Whites’ FA Cup defeat to Crawley last season.

He had no impact on the outcome of the match but can still claim to have been part of a team that beat Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

It was one of two matches that Wright featured in during his short time with the League Two side. In the other game, he started against Harrogate Town but was withdrawn at half time with the Reds 3-0 down.

He was released at the end of the season and is unlikely to return to professional football in the future.
