Departing Leeds United remains a distinct possibility for Mateusz Klich in the January transfer window. Head coach Jesse Marsch could not rule out that outcome when he spoke about the match-winner in Friday’s friendly at Elche.
After a series of long and frequent embraces from the senior members of the Leeds dressing room after Friday’s win, it was hard to ignore the Pole’s current status. At 32, Klich is the oldest head in the squad and his playing time is only going in one direction under Marsch.
Marsch deliberately held back from saying too much in his post-match press conference at Estadio Martinez Valero on Friday night, with nothing off the table in his mind. Klich had also been close to departing the club in the summer before Marsch presented a vision for the midfielder’s short-term future at Elland Road.

“It's (Klich’s future) not totally clear yet,” he said. “We should hold off on saying anything about that. Obviously, there's been some conversations, but nothing's concrete yet.
“There's a lot of love for Mateusz in the group, right? He's an incredible person. So we like him.”
Since scoring that curled winner for the Whites, reliable reports have surfaced on Major League Soccer interest in Klich. D.C. United, led by Wayne Rooney, have been credited with the most advanced move for the Poland international.
