Leeds United's Championship assurances for Marsch from Radrizzani and 49ers Enterprises

Plans for Leeds United’s future with and without relegation have been put to Jesse Marsch and reassured the head coach. The American said the club would be ‘very secure’ if it did drop into the Championship.

Marsch had been asked in his pre-match press conference what conversations he had had with 49ers Enterprises and Andrea Radrizzani about the future with their Premier League status in the balance. The Leeds boss has had conversations of those nature since before he took the job.

The former RB Leipzig chief asked what a Championship future would look like before he signed on the dotted line and the message from above has remained the same throughout his tenure. The planning has been done on the numbers and players with a clear ability to ‘move forward in a positive direction’.

“We’ve again not had any communication other than to say they have done some behind-the-scenes planning to make sure we’re in good shape in any direction the season may go in,” he said. “That’s financially, with the player pool, what the future will bring, that we’re very secure and able to move forward in a positive direction, which they said to me from the very beginning.

“Before I came here, I asked them questions about what it would look like if it goes in this direction, or what it would look like if it goes in that direction. They were clear they had a plan, they were able to map out what some of that plan looks like.

“There was clarity already. In that sense, they’ve left me alone to not have to focus on anything other than the job at hand and to make sure I do everything I can to keep us up.”

Big-ticket players like Kalvin Phillips, Raphinha, Illan Meslier, Diego Llorente and Rodrigo would all be realistic sales if Leeds were relegated, while contract clauses would drag down the wages of existing players.
