Leeds United's best and worse-case relegation battle scenarios this weekend as opportunity knocks

Leeds United could take six points out of a possible six away from arguably their most important week of the Premier League season so far this weekend as they prepare to host Crystal Palace.

The Whites currently sit in 13th thanks to their 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest earlier this week and a similar result against Roy Hodgson's side on Sunday would see them move up another place to 12th - it'd be just the second time this season they've achieved back-to-back wins.

However, defeat would see them thrown right back into the mix for relegation down to the Championship with the Eagles also trying to secure their own safety this weekend.

Best Case

It goes without saying that the best-case scenario for Javi Gracia's men would include a win over Crystal Palace on Sunday - but there's a lot of football to be played before then.

Not all of their relegation rivals can lose this weekend, with Bournemouth and Leicester playing against each other at the King Power Stadium. A draw between those two could see both remain in the bottom three with other results going against them.

Wolves face a Chelsea side that will be revitalised by the reappointment of Frank Lampard and if beaten would fall even further behind Leeds if the Whites do beat Palace.

If this scenario was to play out, Leeds would be six points above the relegation zone in 12th place and could begin to cement their place in mid-table under Gracia for the rest of the season.

Worst Case

Everyone else winning and Leeds losing seems very, very unlikely but of course, it's still a possibility. If that did happen, they'd drop all the way back down into 18th.

That would require Everton to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, Nottingham Forest to beat Aston Villa and West Ham to defeat Fulham with both of those also being away games.

Bournemouth and Wolves would also need to win for the Whites to drop back into the bottom three, meaning that'd make Leeds' already-difficult end-of-season run-in even tougher with games against Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Newcastle United still to play.
