Leeds United relegation and survival permutations with Whites set for date with destiny

Leeds United's path to Premier League safety has plenty of permutations as we head into the final two games of the season. The Whites are a point away from Everton and safety in 17th place, while Nottingham Forest sit three ahead in 16th.

Sam Allardyce and his men take on his former club, West Ham United, on the road next weekend, before a final day showdown at Elland Road against Tottenham Hotspur. Everton are set to play Wolves and Bournemouth, while Forest take on Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Leeds Live has taken an in depth look at some of the circumstances surrounding the final two games of the season.

Relegation

Putting it plainly, two defeats in their final two games would relegate Leeds United. To make matters worse, the Whites could be relegated this weekend leaving nothing to play for on the final day of the season.

If Leeds lose at West Ham United and Nottingham Forest pick up a point at Arsenal with Everton also beating Wolves, the Whites would be unable to catch those above them heading into the final day of the season.

Leicester City could also be relegated this weekend if they lose at Newcastle and the sides above them in the table win.

One point

On the flip side, it could take as little as one point to survive in the top flight, if Everton lose both of their final two games of the season, with Leicester City doing the same. The Foxes are a point below Leeds and take on Newcastle and West Ham United in their final two games of the season.

Dean Smith's men are one of the favourites to go down and have shown very little sign of surviving beyond this season. Leeds would stay up on goal difference if both Leicester and the Toffees lose their final two games of the season, so long as Allardyce's side pick up a point and Everton's goal difference is worse than Leeds'.

However, that's easier said than done with Sean Dyche's Everton having shown a fight in recent weeks and they have the easier run in, with games against Wolves and Bournemouth, both of whom are already safe and have nothing to play for other than pride.

Three points

One win for Leeds in their final two games would see them move level on points with Nottingham Forest, but go ahead of them in the league table due to goal difference. If Everton also win this weekend, it would be Forest who find themselves in the bottom three heading into the final day of the season, if they're beaten by Arsenal.

A shock win for the Tricky Trees or a point against Arsenal would guarantee them survival, if Leeds lose against the Hammers but still win at Spurs on the final day of the season.

Four points

Four points from their final two games would give Leeds a real fighting chance of survival. If Forest fail to win against the Gunners and the Whites pick up a point or three against West Ham, the race for survival goes into the final day of the season, regardless of Everton's result at Wolves.

The Toffees will still be in the hunt for survival on the final day of the season, regardless of their result this weekend.

A draw for Steve Cooper's Forest and a win for Leeds would keep them a point behind the Tricky Trees heading into the final day of the season against Spurs.

Six points

If Leeds win both of their final two games of the season they'd move onto 37 points and level with West Ham United, but wouldn't overtake them in the table unless there was a big swing in goal difference.

Leicester City would be unable to catch the Whites mathematically, leaving Everton needing to match Leeds' results to stay in the league given they're a point ahead of the Whites. Forest also know two wins would guarantee them survival if they were to win both of their games regardless of results elsewhere.

If Leeds win both of their final two games of the season, Forest need four points to ensure survival. If the Whites pick up six points and Forest win just one game, the Tricky Trees would be relegated with both clubs on 37 points - again, with Leeds surviving on goal difference.

Neither Forest or Everton can be relegated this weekend.
