Leeds United (4-2-3-1)
1 Illan Meslier
Replays of the penalty are inconclusive, but if Meslier didn't get a glove to Callum Styles's penalty he was very close. Made a strong save to deny Devante Cole earlier in the first half, but a pretty quiet night for him. 7
37 Cody Drameh
An encouraging return to Leeds colours. Showed the expected work rate and penchant for a tackle. Improved as the game wore on in an attacking sense too though. Really excelled with his counter-pressing, dovetailed well with Crysencio Summerville going forward. 7
14 Diego Llorente
Consistently looked for the longer, vertical passes downfield into the attackers, but didn't always see the options he wanted. Not hugely tested by a League One attack. 6

6 Liam Cooper
Will be delighted to get 45 minutes under his belt after so long away from match action. Steady and not stretched. Showed some good composure with well-judged passes along the defensive third. 6
33 Leo Hjelde
Didn't quite find his feet the way Pascal Struijk has at left-back and required plenty of instructions from Jesse Marsch as the game wore on. 5
42 Sam Greenwood
Tackling and attitude was spot on all evening, but passing and set-pieces were off-colour. 5
4 Adam Forshaw
Didn't bring the control Leeds would have wanted against League One opponents. Anticipation was a little off and he was turned too many times or simply caught out of position as Barnsley got forward. 6
10 Crysencio Summerville
Some of the usual, nice flashes from the Dutchman in attack, but also some excellent tackling and pressing of his own deep in the Barnsley half. 7
43 Mateusz Klich
Rolled in his penalty with nonchalant ease and showed class in his cultured second finish, but did not get Leeds ticking in an attacking sense otherwise. Some passes were wayward and his pressing was not too effective. 7
23 Luis Sinisterra
Showed the match's best moment of quality with the opening goal and barely had to get out of third gear in winning the penalty. Did not see a lot of him beyond those moments. 7
30 Joe Gelhardt
Not a lot ran the right way for him in the first half, but had much more of an impact in the second half. Dug into a fantastic tackle which created the third goal and so lively in and around the box. Deserved a goal. 7
Substitutes
22 Joel Robles
5 Robin Koch (on for Llorente h/t)
Pocketed the Barnsley attackers. 6
7 Brenden Aaronson
8 Marc Roca (on for Sinisterra 62min)
Very little for him to do. Got the ball, moved it on, ticked things over. 6
11 Jack Harrison
19 Rodrigo (on for Gelhardt 75min)
A late change and perhaps an unnecessary risk. N/A
20 Daniel James (on for Greenwood 75min)
Late change. N/A
21 Pascal Struijk (on for Cooper h/t)
Brought so much more than Hjelde to the left flank and even showed a turn of speed to give Barnsley issues in their own backline. Getting better by the week at full-back. 7
