Leeds United player ratings as Illan Meslier and Rasmus Kristensen impress in Aston Villa defeat

Illan Meslier: The star of the first half. The keeper produced a fine double to save to deny Philippe Coutinho from the penalty spot and the subsequent rebound. A couple of minutes later he managed to get a hand to an Ollie Watkins shot that looked destined to nestle. 8

Robin Koch: Caught out once or twice in the first half and looked a little rusty at times. 6

Brenden Aaronson: His best performance in a Leeds shirt so far. He kept busy throughout, pressed well and looked to make things happen. 7

Marc Roca: The Spaniard looked to enjoy himself in Brisbane. He got about the pitch well an found a number of fine passes. 7

Patrick Bamford: Captained Marsch’s side from the start and picked up 60 minutes of game time. He looked to be tiring at times in the first half, but he got stuck in after the break. 6

Tyler Adams: Gave away a penalty in the first half and wasn’t quite as sharp on the ball as hoped, but had some nice touches and he performed better than he did last time out against Brisbane Roar. 6

Diego Llorente: The Spaniard only picked up 45 minutes at the Suncorp Stadium and he’ll be better for it. 6

Dan James: Lively at times and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. 7

Jack Harrison: Picked in a more advanced role and got involved regularly with build-up play. Wasn’t at his devastating best, though. 6

Leif Davis: Arguably one of the most impressive in the first half, but he was the man that gave away the penalty for the goal. 7

Rasmus Kristensen: One of Leeds’ best. He won the ball back with regularity, pressured Villa attackers and made his presence felt defensively. 8

Subs

Adam Forshaw: Led the team well in a feisty second half and found a few neat passes but couldn’t find the opening required. 7

Rodrigo Moreno: Busy enough. Got about well after emerging in the second half. 6

Pascal Struijk: On Llorente at the break to get another 45 minutes under his belt. Didn’t put a foot wrong. 7

Luis Sinisterra: The winger isn’t quite as sharp as he could be, that’s clear. He had his moments once more against Villa, but never really threatened. 6

Leo Hjelde: Shook off a calf issue to come on in the second half at left-back for his first minutes of the tour. 6

Cody Drameh: Never looked 100 per cent comfortable at the Suncorp. Kept his width well but couldn’t really produce. 6

Crysencio Summerville: Didn’t really get into the game in the second half. Will probably have to do more in order to catch the eye. 6

Mateusz Klich: An energetic showing but struggled to find an opening. 6

Sam Greenwood: Some tidy touches as he came on to feature in the middle of the park. 6

Archie Gray: Only had about five minutes on the field before being stretchered off. N/A.
