Leeds United news with Brenden Aaronson tipped to topple Christian Pulisic as America's golden boy

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines for Wednesday, August 24.

Aaronson predicted to topple Pulisic

Former Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Robbie Mustoe believes Leeds United star Brenden Aaronson could go on to have a better Premier League career than his fellow countryman Christian Pulisic.

Aaronson continued his impressive start to his Leeds career by scoring his first goal for the Whites in the 3-0 win against Chelsea on Sunday. The 21-year-old's USA team-mate Pulisic came off the bench for Chelsea but failed to make an impact.

"I'm not going to go all the way there, but we know Christian Pulisic is the golden child for American soccer because of what he's done and going to a club like Chelsea," said Mustoe on The 2 Robbies Podcast.

"Aaronson might end up - and this is crazy early - having a better Premier League career than him given his attributes. He's got an unbelievable engine.

"He can run all day long and doesn't look like he's sweating. The quickness, the sharpness, the cleverness that he's got - he's 21! He's going to come on."

Leeds squad revealed for Barnsley clash

Leeds United will be looking to continue their excellent start to the season when they host Barnsley in the Carabao Cup second round this evening. The Whites currently sit third in the Premier League after picking up seven points from their opening three matches.

Jesse Marsch has so far had a settled side to pick up from this season but could make several changes to his squad for the visit of the Tykes. In goal, Kristoffer Klaesson will be pushing for his first senior start since his move last summer.

Joel Robles could also take his place on the bench if Marsch opts to hand Illan Meslier the night off completely. In defence, Cody Drameh and Leo Hjelde are likely to start, though the position of the latter could depend heavily on the fitness of Liam Cooper.

Kristensen's Champions League admission

Champions League football is the long-term carrot everyone at Leeds United is chasing, but it’s already the stark on-field reality for new faces arriving at Elland Road. Rasmus Kristensen is one such arrival who has felt the penny drop on the chasm between Austria and England’s top flights.

While there was some encouragement for the Denmark international on Sunday, the right-back was given a rough ride in the opening two matches of the season. Kristensen has felt the leap in level on the pitch and raised it with Jesse Marsch.

The head coach was not shocked to find Kristensen felt this way. Marsch and Victor Orta have been telling prospective new signings all summer how they can come to Elland Road and play Champions League-level football every week.
