Leeds United waiting on reply from Marcelo Bielsa over training ground name

Leeds United are waiting on a response from former boss Marcelo Bielsa over whether or not they can name the club's training ground after him.

The Whites are keen to give Bielsa recognition for the role he played in helping Leeds climb back to the Premier League following years in the wilderness of the Football League.

However, according to the Athletic's Phil Hay, Leeds are waiting on receiving a "thumbs up" from the Argentine over whether the club have his blessing to name Thorp Arch after Bielsa.

"Bielsa always used to say when people talked about permanent tributes to him or anything else, he would always give the impression that he did not want to see that, that he didn’t think he’d earned it." said Hay speaking on The Phil Hay Show.

"So yes, they need a reply from him with the thumbs up I think before they’ll do that.”

Leeds United U21s boss Michael Skubala was left delighted after his side dismantled Southampton U21s 6-2 in the Premier League 2 on Friday night.

Patrick Bamford scored a hat-trick on the night as he picked up 75 minutes of much-needed game time, while Crysencio Summerville, club captain Liam Cooper and Sonny Perkins bagged during an eye-catching display in front of 10,639 supporters.

The win not only consolidated the Whites' position at the top of the Premier League 2 Division 2 table, but it ensured Skubala extended his unbeaten start to life in charge of United’s U21s.

“First off very impressed,” said Skubala.

“We started the game very, very impressively. I thought we were electric, we were lively.

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has discussed how the Whites created a leadership group under head coach Jesse Marsch in order to help players communicate better with the American.

Speaking to the Official Leeds United Podcast, Cooper explained that a group of senior players, including himself, help their teammates with issues they might have and take them to the boss.

"We have a sort of leadership group, there's a few of the senior lads in there and we try to get together with Jesse [Marsch] every four to six weeks," explained Cooper.
