Leeds United news as Whites takeover unlikely to be impacted by Jean-Kevin Augustin fee

A look at the latest Leeds United news this evening on Tuesday, April 11.

Leeds United takeover unlikely to be impact by Jean-Kevin Augustin fee

Leeds United's takeover may go through sooner than expected according to recent reports. The 49ers Enterprises, who have an option to buy the Whites in January 2024, believe a takeover could go through by the end of this summer.

The claim comes on the back of news claiming Leeds will have to pay £24.5million to former loanee Jean-Kevin Augustin following breach of the players contract. The club have appealed that decision, but 49ers takeover talk continues to proceed despite another future pay-out.

During the report regarding Augustin's claim, The Athletic said: “The Athletic revealed in 2021 that 49ers Enterprises held an option to buy Leeds in January 2024, but few anticipate that a takeover is going to wait until next year. Those familiar with the deal and the discussions around it believe it will proceed by this summer, if not sooner.”

Leeds United reportedly told to pay Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5m for alleged breach of contract

Leeds United have reportedly been ordered to pay Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5million in compensation after they were found to have allegedly breached the former forward's contract.

The Athletic report that the Swiss striker has been awarded the financial compensation after he took the case against Leeds to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, who 'found partially in his favour'. The club are reportedly appealing the decision.

After publishing their financial accounts for 2021-22, it was revealed that Leeds took a financial hit with the settlement of Kevin Augustin - who only played three games for the Whites - costing them £15.5m. That came after the club lost their case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Damning statistic Leeds United must fix if they are to avoid relegation

Patrick Bamford's 21st minute opener seemed an eternity ago when the final whistle blew at Elland Road on Sunday. Not only had Leeds yet again blown a lead, but a complete collapse in the second half saw them leak four goals in the second half alone.

Their 5-1 defeat against Crystal Palace left them in a precarious 16th place, and sitting just two points clear of danger with eight games remaining.

Sunday's defeat aside, Javi Gracia has generated optimism since his arrival with three victories from his seven league games at the helm, but Leeds' inability to hold onto a lead has proved costly this season.

Leeds United warned they'll 'have a few problems' if they refuse to pay Jean-Kevin Augustin fee

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire believes Leeds United will have a few problems if they refuse to pay Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5million in compensation. The Athletic report that the French striker has been awarded the financial compensation after he took the case against the Whites to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, who 'found partially in his favour'.

Leeds are reportedly appealing the decision. The Whites have already stumped up £15.5million for the striker, despite only playing three games for the club, after they lost their case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Augustin, who now plays for Basel after a spell in France, signed for the Whites on loan from RB Leipzig in January 2020, with the club reportedly inserting an 'obligation to buy' clause within the deal if they were to win promotion to the Premier League. They achieved that feat on July 17 - after the expiry of the Augustin loan deal on June 30 - due to the delays to the season following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jurgen Klopp ponders Mohamed Salah decision ahead of Leeds United vs Liverpool clash

Jurgen Klopp says he will 'talk' with Mohamed Salah over whether he will remain Liverpool's penalty-taker.

Liverpool came from two goals behind to draw 2-2 against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday. Salah reduced the deficit for Liverpool in the 42nd minute before Roberto Firmino equalised three minutes from time.

However, Salah's penalty miss earlier in the second half has led to questions over his capabilities from the spot. The Egyptian international also missed a penalty in the 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth last month.

Inside Leeds United dressing room postmortem at full-time after Crystal Palace collapse

Music was not booming through the walls of Leeds United’s Elland Road media suite at 4pm on Sunday. Journalists gathered for post-match press conferences underneath the John Charles Stand can often hear the Whites’ eclectic music taste after positive results.

It was predictably quiet on Sunday after one of the worst second-half collapses the stadium has seen in years. Javi Gracia would go on to explain what the post-match message had been in his dressing room debrief to the players.

In what was presumably a very sombre room after the match, the head coach said lessons would have to be learned and the pain of the experience should not be forgotten.

Leeds United cannot afford Crystal Palace achievement to be replicated during relegation run-in

Crystal Palace had six of the top 10 players outside of the Premier League's 'big six' to complete the most successful dribbles during their 5-1 win over Leeds United.

Patrick Bamford's 50th goal for the club in the first-half was swiftly overshadowed by a second-half implosion that saw Palace score four goals in 24 minutes at Elland Road. Marc Guehi's equaliser moments before half-time came against the run of play after an opening 45 minutes that would have left Javi Gracia questioning how his side had failed to score just the solitary goal.

However, the first and second-half performances were night and day as Palace scored four without reply after the break. Michael Olise would set up three of the five goals in a superb individual performance for Roy Hodgson's side. Eberechi Eze, who scored the third of Palace's five goals, also impressed as both players showcased their dribbling talents.
