Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, May 18.

Vinnie Jones praises 'brilliant' fans

Former Leeds United midfielder Vinnie Jones has admitted that he hoping his old side can avoid the drop this weekend. The Whites are currently in a three-team battle to avoid 18th-place in the Premier League table.

Everton and Burnley play on Thursday night on an evening that will make the final-day scenario clear for Jesse Marsch's men, while Jones has moved to praise fans of all three clubs for how they have backed their sides in recent weeks.

"So, to the final week of the Premier League season - and no surprise everything’s up the grabs," he writes in his EasyOdds column. "Man City or Liverpool for the title? Everton, Leeds or Burnley for the drop?

"It’s going to be a white-knuckle ride for a few teams and supporters and I’m just hoping Leeds can avoid relegation. They got a last-minute equaliser against the Seagulls at the weekend which was crucial, but they’re not making it easy for themselves.

"Everton also seem to be taking one step forward and two steps back, Burnley also. But fair play to the fans of all these three sides - they’ve been brilliant. What will be, will be."

Over 100 Leeds fans preparing for 92-mile walk in memory of Gary Speed

The walk will take place between Thursday, May 26 th and Sunday, May 29 th and will briefly stop at the Gary Speed Mural in Bramley as it nears the stadium where the midfielder remains a true hero. Merson backs Leeds to pip Burnley to survival

While Hoddle can’t see a way that Leeds survive the threat of relegation from the Premier League, Paul Merson expects the opposite. He believes the point that the Whites rescued against Brighton will be the deciding factor given Burnley’s tough last two fixtures.

“If I had to pick which camp I'd rather be in out of the relegation candidates, it'd be Leeds because of that point against Brighton - one that I think will keep them up,” he said in his Sky Sports column.

“On Thursday, Burnley go to Aston Villa who are playing their last home game of the season. You've got to give the fans optimism on the last home game so Villa will be the biggest triers in the world on Thursday night.

“Steven Gerrard will not want 40,000 people leaving that ground with the attitude of next season. He will want to send those fans away with the feeling that they'll buy a new season ticket with the thought of Gerrard turning things around. That only happens if they beat Burnley.
