Leeds United news as Victor Orta lines up next move and big relegation call made

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Bent predicts his bottom three

Darren Bent is tipping Leeds United to beat Newcastle United this weekend, but says that will be the only points the side pick up between now and the end of the season. In a perhaps surprising assessment of the situation, Bent believes the Whites can pick up all three points at home against the Champions League-chasing Magpies, but won't take anything from the matches with West Ham or Tottenham Hotspur.

A solitary win against Newcastle may still be enough to keep Leeds up if other results elsewhere go their way, but that won't be the case according to Bent. The former Tottenham and Aston Villa player has tipped Nottingham Forest to pick up just one more point, Everton three and Leicester four, with all three sides finishing above Leeds if Bent's prediction is accurate, although Forest would go down with Leeds and Southampton.

Orta tipped for Spanish return

Victor Orta is being tipped to make an immediate return to football by returning to familiar territory at his former club Sevilla. Orta left his position as Leeds director of football last week before Sam Allardyce's arrival as manager, but is not expected to be out of work for long.

Football Insider claim Orta is already being lined up by his former club, having served as technical director at the Spanish side before his move to English football. A deal is said to be close to being finalised, with all parties confident of an agreement soon that will allow the ex-Leeds man to be in place for the summer.

Carragher explains Leeds' weaknesses

Jamie Carragher believes that Sam Allardyce may not think that Leeds United’s supposed strengths are actually working in their favour this season and that a change of approach could be urgently needed to get them out of the relegation zone.

United are the second highest-scoring side in the bottom half of the Premier League with 44 – only Leicester City have more – but that has been more than outweighed by a woeful defensive record as they have shipped a division-high 69 goals.

That has led the former Liverpool and England defender to believe that Leeds’ high-pressing approach under Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia may have caused more trouble than it is worth.

Jordan says Leeds have real troubles

Former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan says Leeds United and Leicester City are now both in real trouble after the latest round of Premier League fixtures. Both dropped into the bottom three as a result of Everton and Nottingham Forest winning at the weekend.

Both sides are two points adrift of the Toffees and three behind Steve Cooper's Forest, with just three games to play. Jordan told talkSPORT: "Obviously Forest did their job, but Leicester now look - Southampton have gone - Leeds' run-in looks, irrespective of the Sam [Allardyce] factor, they've got real troubles."
