McKinstry has been a shining light this season for a Motherwell side which are only separated by the foot of the Scottish Premiership table on goal difference.
The 20-year-old has amassed 22 appearances for his hometown club - scoring four goals and providing two assists. The winger started his youth career at Motherwell before being plucked from their ranks by Leeds in July 2019.
He made two appearances for Leeds across all competitions, including a three-minute cameo from the bench in a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in November 2021.
However, it appears unlikely that McKinstry will be handed a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

Leeds United head coach latest and eight injury blows
Michael Skubala faces the media on Friday afternoon for his pre-match press conference. The Leeds United caretaker will take questions from television, radio, print and online journalists at Thorp Arch ahead of the Manchester United clash on Sunday.
The big caveat for Skubala’s latest press conference is how reserved he has been in his first two briefings with the media. The caretaker boss has been very careful to say as little as possible in his answers, especially when it has come to medical details.
Adam Forshaw, Liam Cooper, Marc Roca, Stuart Dallas, Sonny Perkins, Rodrigo, Pascal Struijk and Luis Sinisterra all have question marks hanging over them for Sunday’s rematch. You can expect Skubala will be quizzed on them all, even if he does not want to give too much away.
