Former Leeds United defender Rio Ferdinand lands himself in hot water over Twitter posts
Former Leeds United defender Rio Ferdinand has landed in hot water with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) after a number of his posts on Twitter were not tagged as advertisements to his audience.
The 44-year-old, who starred at Elland Road from 2000 to 2002, repeatedly posted content to the social media platform without the hashtags "advert" or "ad" - something required by the app's policy for any content that is deemed advertorial, including things Ferdinand has been paid to sponsor.
The tweets in question showed the former Whites defender playing on a PlayStation console alongside former Manchester United teammate Patrice Evra, as well as a series of pictures of him taking part in various activities at the "PlayStation House" - a venue in Paris specifically created for the Champions League final.
An anonymous tip off to the ASA suggested Ferdinand has not labelled the posts properly, and their judgement read as follows: "We concluded that they [the tweets] should have been clearly labelled as ads, and we therefore concluded that they breached the code.
"We told Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Ltd and Rio Ferdinand to ensure that in future their ads were obviously identifiable as marketing communications and made clear upfront their commercial intent, for example, by including a clear and prominent identifier such as ‘#ad’.
"We did not consider that tagging the posts with ‘#PlayStationPartners’ or ‘PlayStationHouse’ amounted to a clear acknowledgment of the commercial relationship between Mr Ferdinand and Sony, which would be immediately understandable to a consumer."
Ferdinand will not face any legal trouble for his mistake but has been warned that further errors should not appear on his profiles in the future.

Rasmus Kristensen has to start again after his limited output since the World Cup, while I would give Luke Ayling and Pascal Struijk no more than turns from the bench after playing every minute of the last two friendlies. Robin Koch was a sight for sore eyes in last night’s open training and he needs to reunite with Liam Cooper in defence, for me.
Lee Bowyer talks up 'potential' of forgotten Leeds United youngster
Lee Bowyer has talked up the potential of Leeds United winger Amari Miller following their time together at Birmingham City. Bowyer was the manager who handed Miller his senior debut at the Blues and a further four appearances, including two starts in the Championship.
Birmingham were in serious financial trouble at the time of Miller's breakthrough into the first team, and in the summer that followed Leeds snapped him up for around £1million. But it has not been an easy time at Elland Road for Miller; he has not enjoyed anywhere near the same success as other academy signings and is still yet to make his first senior appearance for the club.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Leeds midfielder Bowyer opened up on his reasons behind handing Miller first team opportunities in difficult circumstances, and revealed his potential was something he spotted early on.
