Leeds United news as Jesse Marsch told to punish 'stupid' Luis Sinisterra

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, October 7.

Ex-Leeds pundit believes Jesse Marsch should punish and axe 'stupid' Whites star

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny believes Whites boss Jesse Marsch should 'punish' winger Luis Sinisterra after his red card against Aston Villa last weekend.

The Colombian was dismissed after just 48 minutes as he picked up a second yellow card for blocking a Villa free kick by sticking out his foot and will now miss this weekend's match against Crystal Palace.

Kenny made 81 appearances for the Whites between 2012 and 2014 and felt strongly about the incident as he spoke to Football Insider earlier this week.

“It’s just stupid, isn’t it? You are really letting your side down there. I don’t get why players do that even when they aren’t on a booking, it doesn’t make any sense.

“This was a game Leeds should be winning but they have been let down by one player and it has cost them. Stupid is the only word I can think of for a sending-off like that.

"He will be banned, obviously, but maybe the club should punish him as well."

Kenny then went on to say how he believed Marsch would've had a serious word with Sinisterra after the match and compared the American manager to his former boss Neil Warnock.

“I’m sure the manager will have let him know what he thought about the situation. I was in the dressing room when Neil Warnock was going off on players, it’s not nice.

“It might be a while before we see that player again.”

Victor Orta set to stay at Leeds United with Chelsea poised to fill technical director vacancy

Chelsea are expecting to appoint Red Bull Leipzig's technical director Christopher Vivell meaning Victor Orta is set to stay at Leeds United in his role as director of football.

The Spaniard has been with the Whites since 2017 and was reportedly on a list of five names that new Blues owner Todd Boehly wanted to replace Petr Cech who left the role earlier this year.

Vivell is said to have had talks with the Blues on Tuesday in London about leaving Leipzig where he's been since 2020 after a clash of "differing views" according to the German club - which could be over the 35-year-old Vivell pushing for the sale of 24-year-old forward Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea.

Former Leeds United manager Brian McDermott opens up on battle with alcoholism

Former Leeds United boss Brian McDermott has opened up on his battle against alcoholism. The 61-year-old spent one year at Elland Road from 2013-14, after guiding Reading to the Premier League, but has not managed since leaving the Royals in a second spell in 2016.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I was one of these people, and I would be one of these people if I was to have a drink, once I've picked up one drink I don't stop. That's me.

"Back in the 70s and the 80s it was like a badge of honour to drink lots of alcohol and the best teams had the best drinkers. As a manager, after a defeat - have a drink - you numb that feeling."
