Leeds United news as Jesse Marsch holds pride in job done at Elland Road and what he misses

A look at the latest Leeds United headlines on Thursday, May 11.

Jesse Marsch speaks out about Leeds United sacking

Former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch says he has pride in the job done at Elland Road and misses the belief and atmosphere around the club.

“Learning different languages, learning different cultures, learning different styles of football has been really valuable in terms of my education and development and in terms of the coach that I want to be,” Marsch told The Athletic. “What you realize is that the attention from every perspective, the magnifying glass on what happens in the Premier League is different than anywhere else.

"And how to manage that internally often will dictate your ability to create success. So, I think at our best moments, we did a really good job of that and we had internally a really good feeling of what we were trying to achieve and togetherness and belief at Leeds United, and that part I miss, and I was really proud of the way that we all worked together.”

Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper and Leeds United absentees on Sam Allardyce's agenda

Leeds United head coach Sam Allardyce will face the media this afternoon for his pre-match press conference. The new head coach is coming to the end of his first full week with his Whites squad and he’ll be ready to take questions from television, radio, print and online journalists at Thorp Arch about his squad and this Saturday’s clash against Newcastle United at Elland Road.

Here is a run-down of some of the main topics on the agenda for the boss to address at the training ground today.

Injuries

Allardyce was unable to provide injury updates last week after stepping into the fold at Elland Road, but he might be in a position to provide more information this time around. He’ll be quizzed on the fitness of Liam Cooper, who limped out of the clash at Bournemouth with what looked like a hip injury and hasn’t been seen on the field since.

The Nottingham Forest record which gives Leeds United hope despite key Southampton win

Nottingham Forest are now one of the teams Leeds United are looking to overhaul in the battle to avoid relegation. Steve Cooper's side moved out of the relegation zone with a huge home victory over basement side Southampton on Monday night.

Taiwo Awoniyi's brace, along with a penalty for Morgan Gibbs-White and a second-half strike from Danilo sealed a 4-3 win for the hosts. The defeat effectively condemns the Saints to Championship football next term, with Leeds and Leicester City also currently sat in the bottom three.

Forest's win followed an emphatic away victory for Everton the day before, with Sean Dyche's side registering a 5-1 win at Brighton. The Toffees leapfrogged Leeds in the table, ahead of facing league leaders Manchester City on Sunday.

Leeds United injury list and return dates in full with three games left to save season

Just 270 minutes of the Premier League season remain for Leeds United. It is do or die time for Sam Allardyce after the former England boss was parachuted in a week ago, with the club knowing that their top-flight fate is not in their own hands.

Monday night saw both Everton and Nottingham Forest move ahead of the Whites, who now sit 19th in the Premier League table, two points off safety. A three-match sprint to the line starts with a home clash against Newcastle United on Saturday, with a trip to West Ham following before Leeds host Tottenham on the final day of the campaign.

Leeds have not had especially good injury luck this season and are likely to have some key absentees again this weekend.
