Leeds United news as former defender backs busy summer and Aaronson discusses Marsch relationship

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Monday, 30 May 2022.

Mills backs busy summer

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has backed the Whites to have a busy summer transfer window. Leeds have already moved quickly to secure the capture of midfielder Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg, while also being linked to several other players.

The Whites had bought just two new first team players in the last three transfer windows under Marcelo Bielsa, with a summer rebuild now on the cards. Speaking to Football Insider, Mills thinks that the lack of activity in January could mean Leeds bring in ‘a lot’ of new players this summer.

He said: “I was listening to Eddie Gray on talkSPORT. He’s obviously very close to the club. He was effectively saying that Leeds United wanted to make signings in January, but Bielsa said no.

“He obviously felt his coaching was enough to see them through. However, we saw that towards the end of his time – that just wasn’t the case. I think we’ll see a lot of those signings this summer that were in the pipeline then.”

Aaronson on Marsch

Brenden Aaronson admits he cannot wait to start learning again under Jesse Marsch. Leeds United kickstarted their summer transfer window by signing the attacking midfielder from RB Salzburg for a reported £25million.

It was Marsch who signed his fellow American in January last year - a relationship that lasted just five months before the manager left for pastures new to join RB Leipzig. However, the short time spent together was a success as Salzburg clinched a historic league and cup double.

Aaronson has heaped praise on Marsch by claiming he played the best football of his career under the 48-year-old’s guidance while also labelling him a “fantastic coach”.

He told BBC Radio Leeds: "I think I played some of my best football under him and I'm excited to get back to him. Of course, we are both American and it's amazing but we see each other on a coach/player level. We're not closer than that which is good and I want to learn from him and do whatever I can to learn more from him because he's a fantastic coach.”

Hernandez tribute

If Pablo Hernandez ever needed any clarification that he'll forever be a Leeds United legend and that he's still loved by the fans then he definitely received that this weekend. After departing Leeds last season following five seasons, Hernandez joined Spanish third-tier side Castellon, his hometown club where he began his career.

But Hernandez left a lasting impression on Leeds as he scored the goal to take them back to the Premier League and played an important role throughout the 2019/20 season. And although he remains a firm favourite amongst fans, he would have been shocked to see around 60 Leeds supporters at Castellon's last game of the season, with the West Yorkshire fans showing their support to him.
