Leeds United news as finance expert gives 'huge' £40m verdict on Elland Road expansion

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Saturday, September 10.

Kieran Maguire reveals £40m number over Elland Road expansion

Finance guru Kieran Maguire has said that Leeds United could more than double their annual matchday income after their planned 18,000-seat expansion of Elland Road.

The added seats would make the stadium the seventh-biggest in the country, ahead of the likes of Anfield, Stamford Bridge, Villa Park and St. James' Park.

“The most amount of money Leeds have made historically is £18m,” Maguire told Football Insider.

“That compares to the likes of Man United, Spurs and potentially Arsenal as well all exceeding £100m. There is a huge gap and in an FFP environment, this does cause challenges for ambitious clubs like Leeds.

“I think they will want to target the prawn sandwich brigade in terms of what’s on offer at Elland Road."

Maguire went on to talk about how it could affect fans for the worse however, saying that he hopes the club don't start exploiting them because of the new amount of seats.

“It isn’t only going to be about the additional seats, it’s going to be about the quality of products and services that they can offer to commercial partners and with lounges and hospitality.

“I think they would be looking to double their matchday income to around the £40m bracket, Hopefully, they can do that without necessarily increasing prices for the Leeds fans who have turned up throughout the good years and the bad.

“They might feel exploited if this was just used as a price grab by the club.“

Jordan's verdict on decision to postpone Leeds United vs Nottingham Forest

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes the Premier League have made the right decision postponing the weekend’s matches after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The announcement came on Friday morning despite UK Government advice stating there was 'no obligation' for sporting events to be cancelled.

Leeds United were due to host Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Monday night in front of the Sky cameras. However, the game will now be rescheduled for a later date and next Sunday’s trip to Manchester United may also be under threat.

Other sports, like cricket and rugby, will continue to be contested over the weekend, while the likes of Piers Morgan and Gary Neville have both questioned the decision to postpone matches. That said, Jordan believes that the correct decision has been made.

Shaun Wright-Phillips makes Jesse Marsch joke as he praises Leeds United impact

Shaun Wright-Phillips has joked Jesse Marsch’s red card at Brentford was ‘typical Jesse’ but remains confident he will be a big success at Leeds United.

Wright-Phillips worked under Marsch during the two’s time together at New York Red Bulls in the 2015/16 season, which was the 48-year-old’s first role in the Red Bull setup.

In an interview with Fair Betting Sites, Wright-Phillips claimed Marsch has never been the sort of manager to hide his feelings on the touchline, and is impressed the way he has implemented his style at Elland Road.
