Leeds United news as ex-Whites man believes Kalvin Phillips faces Man City 'fight'

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Thursday, 7 July.

Whelan gives verdict on Kalvin Phillips' Man City move

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan believes Kalvin Phillips will be used in a rotational role at new club Manchester City. The England international recently left Leeds to join Pep Guardiola and the Premier League champions for a fee of £42m.

With City already boasting the likes of Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan in the centre of midfield, there is every chance Phillips won't get as many minutes as he did at Elland Road, with Guardiola known for rotating his sides often. But despite this, Whelan reckons that will suit Phillips just fine, with the ex-Leeds forward backing the 26-year-old to shine at the Etihad.

"When you sign for Man City, you know you likely won’t be playing every week," Whelan told Football Insider.

"It’s a rotational club. They’ve doubled up with quality across every position, every base. He’ll get his game time. The thought of having Rodri and Kalvin in that midfield area is formidable. When you go to a club like City, you’re fighting for your place no matter who you are.

"The rotation used by Pep keeps every player fit and fresh, and that’s why they are such a hard team to knock off their perch. They’ve got quality in abundance. Kalvin won’t be going in thinking he will start 50 games a season. He knows he will get game time – and when he steps in, he won’t look out of place."

Tyler Adams 'super excited' as he outlines his Leeds United expectations

New Leeds United signing Tyler Adams can't wait to play in front of a packed-out Elland Road following his summer transfer move from RB Leipzig.

The American international has signed a five-year deal with the Whites and joins the club for a fee of £20m. Adams is now Leeds' fifth summer signing and will help offset the loss of Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.

The 23-year-old was someone Leeds had been heavily linked with this summer and has previous worked with Whites boss Jesse Marsch during their time together at Leipzig.

And speaking to LUTV in his introductory club interview, Adams revealed he is "super excited" to get his Leeds career off to a flyer.

Leeds United confirm Tyler Roberts loan exit

As one Tyler joins Leeds United, another departs. Forward Tyler Roberts has left Leeds to join Championship side Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan deal.

Roberts spent most of Leeds' run-in last season sidelined with an unfortunate thigh injury and the Welsh international needs game time with the World Cup just months away.

His move to QPR will most likely give the 23-year-old the minutes he needs to ensure he is part of Rob Page's 26-man Wales squad for Qatar 2022.
