Leeds United news as ex-Whites coach among favourites for two Championship vacancies

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Tuesday, October 4.

Corberan in demand

Ex-Leeds assistant Carlos Corberan is on a four-man shortlist for the managerial vacancy at Hull City, according to the Football Insider.

Scott Parker, Carlos Carvalhal and Sergen Yalcin are also among the candidates reportedly being considered by the Tigers following Shota Arveladze’s sacking last Friday.

Corberan has also emerged as one of the bookmakers’ favourites to take over at Middlesbrough. Chris Wilder was relieved of his duties on Monday with Boro in the relegation zone and Corberan is second favourite to succeed him at 9/1.

Rob Edwards is currently the leading favourite at 1/2 after recently being dismissed by Watford.

Corberan served as U23s and assistant manager during Marcelo Bielsa's reign at Elland Road before taking over at Huddersfield Town in 2020. He guided the Terriers to the Championship play-off final, where they lost against Nottingham Forest, before leaving in the summer.

Next referee announced

The match officials for the 10th Premier League gameweek of the season have been appointed and Leeds United have been given Paul Tierney - a referee with a plenty of history with the Yorkshire club.

Leeds, as a club, have been increasingly vocal about the state of officiating within the PGMOL this season, with midfielder Adam Forshaw saying "most of the players" would get rid of VAR while manager Jesse Marsch was sent off for his outburst at Robert Jones during their 5-2 loss at Brentford. This past weekend also saw Stuart Attwell criticised by many supporters.

Tierney has been in the middle of numerous past controversies surrounding his performances and has come under fire from both managers and journalists.

Roberts on loan exit

Leeds United loanee Tyler Roberts has claimed it was a mutual decision between him and Jesse Marsch to depart in the summer. Roberts made the season-long-loan switch to Queens Park Rangers during the window in search of regular game time.

The Wales international was entering the campaign with QPR on the back off a serious hamstring injury at the back end of last season. He has therefore had to overcome a couple of slight, niggly issues at the start of the current campaign, which he has managed to do.

Roberts netted his first league goal of the season on Saturday as Michael Beale’s side earned an impressive 2-1 win at Bristol City. Speaking after the game, Roberts spoke of how staying fit and becoming a regular goal scorer are what he is looking to do after leaving Leeds.
