Leeds United news as Carlos Carvalhal hints at future while U18 striker leaves

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines for Thursday, June 8, 2023.

Carvalhal on future

Reported Leeds United managerial target Carlos Carvalhal has hinted his future is uncertain with Spanish side Celta Vigo.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss is among those linked to the Elland Road hotseat, having guiding Celta to 13th in La Liga this season. He has plenty experience of English football, with a spell at Swansea as well as the Owls.

However, speaking after the end of the Spanish season, Carvalhal suggested he was looking for more stability from the club's owners.

"The club has to really look at itself on various levels," he said. "There are lots of departments that should improve so that the club can compete and increase its level. I felt that the team was going to fall apart. They were already planning for next season, talking about Europe.

"Do I want to continue? Yes, but there are a set of important assumptions to continue, and they are well defined. I am 57 years of age, I am not a boy. I want stability and to see what conditions there are.

“I'm not sure if I want to continue or not. I don't want to be in this situation next season. It's a historic club that has qualified for Europe and reached the quarter final of the Europa League, so it shouldn't be fighting relegation.”

Young striker leaves Leeds

Former Leeds United U18s striker Ben Andreucci has joined Bolton Wanderers following the end of his contract with the Whites. The 18-year-old had impressed for the U18s, scoring 19 goals in 39 appearances for the young Leeds side.

However, the club had allowed him to leave without compensation this summer, and he confirmed his move to Bolton on social media, posting 'Can't wait to get started'.

The Scotland U19 international featured to Leeds' U21 side this term, but will hope he can find first-team football with Wanderers.

Allardyce on potential Leeds role

Outgoing Leeds United boss Sam Allardyce says he would love to return to the club in a director of football role despite parting company at the end of last season. The former Whites boss claims ex-sporting director Victor Orta was the reason behind his appointment coming so late in the season, with Javi Gracia the preferred choice following Jesse Marsch's dismissal.

Allardyce picked up just one point from his four games in charge of the club but has thrown his support behind his backroom staff, Karl Robinson and Robbie Keane who he believes should take on the role.

Allardyce told the No Toppy Tappy Football podcast: "If I could stay in touch with Leeds, I'd only be too happy in a different position in terms of helping restructure from behind and not on the frontline, where it hits you the most. If that's the case I'd be only too willing to talk to them.

"In my short spell, as much as it was disappointing we didn't get there, it's such a big club and such a great club, such a great bunch of fans and I'd be only too willing to help restructure in terms of where the club wants to go in it's short and long-term future.

"My feeling is that, the need is now, obviously at the top end there's a bit of a dispute about the ownership of the club. Is it with Andrea and the 49ers or do the 49ers want to buy it out? Andrea isn't getting the price he wants by the sound of it and that causes a lot of confusion when there really doesn't need to be any confusion. There needs to be a track set out and follow that."
