Leeds United news as bid lodged for Whites-linked defender and Koch admits Newcastle frustration

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday, 23 January 2022.

Serie A side table bid for Leeds-linked defender

Serie A side Bologna have reportedly lodged a bid for Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay, a player Leeds United are said to have watched.

According to The Sun, an offer of £3.5m has been tabled for a player they claim Leeds watched in action last week.

However, they also report that Leeds were not the only English club monitoring Ramsay and that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Southampton watched him last week.

Premier League strugglers Watford are named as long-term admirers of the 18-year-old, who represents Scotland at under-21 level.

Koch admits frustration following Newcastle defeat

Leeds United defender Robin Koch has admitted it was 'frustrating' to lose to Newcastle United despite creating opportunities to score.

The hosts enjoyed more possession and did carve out opportunities to break the deadlock but failed to find their clinical edge in the final third.

Speaking after the match, Koch said: "It's frustrating for us. We played not a bad game and created a lot of chances we missed to score a goal, then you concede and lose this game."

"We played good until the last section of the pitch but we just need to score."

Newcastle eventually took the lead through Jonjo Shelvey, a goal which took the sting out of the Whites and sent the Elland Road faithful home with nothing to celebrate.

Koch said: "One goal like this you concede when you don’t score.

"After the goal we conceded it’s difficult because we put everything into the game. Every one of us put 100% into this game but we couldn’t get anything from it. We will recover and go again."

Young winger provides silver lining

Leeds United supporters may not be keen to reflect upon the defeat to Newcastle United but a maiden appearance in a senior travelling party for Amari Miller provided a small silver lining.

He arrived from Championship side Birmingham City last summer and has featured regularly at under-23 level for the Whites.

Although not named as a substitute, the 19-year-old arrived at Elland Road with the squad and joined teammates for the customary pre-match pitch inspection.

It added another name to the list of prospects now flirting with the first-team, again demonstrating the benefit of director of football Victor Orta's intense focus on youth recruitment.
