Leeds United news as Arnaud Kalimuendo bid 'submitted' while PSV issue Philipp Max warning

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines on Tuesday, August 2.

Leeds 'submit Kalimuendo bid'

Leeds United have submitted a £16.7m bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Arnaud Kalimuendo, according to French publication Media Foot. Newcastle United have also been chasing the 20-year-old, whose future looks unlikely in Paris due to Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe spearheading the attack.

The Whites have offered the minimum amount desired by PSG, who hope to complete a deal between £16.8m and £20.9m. Kalimuendo has attracted interest from a host of clubs around Europe, including Olympique Lyonnais, Stade Rennes and Inter Milan.

Kalimuendo scored 21 goals in 65 appearances during his two seasons on-loan at RC Lens, including 12 goals last term. The France U21 international also featured from the bench as PSG won 4-0 over FC Nantes in the Trophee des Champions final on Sunday

Marsch faces key leadership decision ahead of Wolves opener

Leeds United will be flying high after cruising to a 6-2 victory over Cagliari at Elland Road in their final pre-season friendly on Sunday. The Whites kick-off the new Premier League campaign against Wolves on Saturday and supporters seem impressed by how the club’s new signings seem to have settled in.

However, at this stage it seems Leeds will enter the new season without any of their recognised leaders. Of course, Liam Cooper would ordinarily be leading the side out in West Yorkshire on Saturday to begin his eighth full season as skipper at Elland Road.

The defender was given the armband by Neil Redfearn during the 2014-15 season and he will captain the side once more this year as the Whites look to further establish themselves in the top-flight. Cooper has missed a huge chunk of pre-season through injury, though, and while he has restarted training this week, he is rated as a huge doubt for Saturday’s contest.

Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas, who have lead the side previously in Cooper’s absence are also sidelined at present through injury. As such, it seems Marsch has something of a decision to make regarding who will skipper United on Saturday against Bruno Lage’s side.

PSV warn off Leeds in Max pursuit

PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has made it clear that he has no ambition to sell Philipp Max. Leeds are eager to add a left-back to their squad ahead of the new season as Junior Firpo continues to recover from a knee injury, and with Leif Davis having moved to Ipswich Town.

Leeds were understood to have tabled a £7m bid for the dangerous attacking left-back. The 28-year-old German international would suit the style Marsch wants to adopt in the Premier League but PSV are keen to keep him.

“There is not a hair on my head thinking about letting Max go,” van Nistelrooy informed the Dutch press. “And the way he does it [performs], I am very excited with that.”
