Leeds United news amid Tony Yeboah admission and Merson prediction

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, October 19.

Former Leeds United striker thought fans would 'boo him' after debut

Former Leeds United striker Tony Yeboah has admitted he thought fans would 'boo him' during his debut at Elland Road.

Despite only playing two seasons at Leeds, Yeboah is a much-loved figure by fans but originally believed they'd hate him during his first few minutes on the pitch.

The Ghanaian is most remembered for two of the greatest goals in Premier League history against Liverpool and AFC Wimbledon that won him back-to-back Goal of the Month awards in September and October 1995.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Yeboah praised Whites fans and the club but admitted he felt uncomfortable about how the fans would react to him before the game.

“I loved Leeds and felt loved there. Leeds supporters are fantastic. I remember my first game against QPR, my first touch was so bad and yet the fans were clapping.

"I wondered what was going on, I thought they were going to boo me, but they clapped. My game was about being comfortable, and at Leeds I felt comfortable, the fans were behind me, the players were very nice to me. It was like I was home.”

Leeds United U21s take plenty from Bolton defeat as Michael Skubala provides Joel Robles verdict

Michael Skubala believes his Leeds United U21s will be better for the experience of taking on Bolton Wanderers in the Papa John’s Trophy. The Whites fell to their first defeat of the season on Tuesday night, losing 3-0 to the League One outfit at the University of Bolton Stadium.

There was plenty to like about the youngsters’ performance against a strong Trotters outfit, though, and they had a number of chances to take the lead in the first half, with Sean McGurk spurning the best chance of the lot. However, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson gave Bolton the lead in the 14th minute of the game and despite a battling performance from Skubala’s side, Amadou Bakayoko and Kieran Sadlier found success late on to secure Bolton’s place in the knockout stages of the competition.

Leeds still have one game to play in the competition and they know a win over Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road in a fortnight’s time will seal their own berth in the next round. Skubala won’t spend too much time focusing on the result against Bolton, but he was more than happy with what he saw from his squad.

Paul Merson fires Leeds United warning despite being 'unlucky' against Arsenal

Paul Merson is predicting defeat for Leeds United at the King Power Stadium later this week. The former Arsenal midfielder admits he was impressed by the Whites display against his former club, but is worried about them.

Leeds have not picked up three points since their 3-0 win over Chelsea back in August, albeit their best performance of the season. Jesse Marsch's side have turned in impressed enough displays in recent weeks but have not yet come out on the winning side.

They travel to Leicester City looking to pick up a vital three points against a struggling Foxes side. Brendan Rodgers side have won just once this season with pressure mounting on the 49-year-old.
