Leeds United told they must counterbalance Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha departures correctly

TV pundit Danny Mills has insisted his former side Leeds United must go about their summer recruitment in the correct way in order to counterbalance the departures of both Kalvin Phillips and potentially Raphinha too. With Phillips move to Manchester City almost seemingly confirmed over the past 48 hours, fellow starlet Raphinha could also be heading for the Elland Road exit door, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea said to be monitoring his situation.

Likely to receive over £100m in transfer fees for both players, Mills insists Leeds must go about their business in the correct way in order to stand any chance of improving on last seasons 17th placed finish.

"Having the money is one thing but finding the players that you want is very very difficult," began the 45-year-old, when speaking to Sky Sports News. "Getting those players through the door is very very difficult and getting them to hit the ground running and to perform at that level is even harder. You are always better keeping what you have got, if possible, but with Raphinha this now will probably lead to him wanting away even more.

"I think he has always been a little bit shaky, he's not like Kalvin Phillips where he isn't devoted to Leeds, Leeds isn't his club, that's not his first love like it was for Kalvin and I think we have already seen Raphinha would be quite happy and quite acceptant of a move away as soon as possible.

"He has caught the attention of quite a lot of clubs at the moment and this just gives him another reason to say look you've just got rid of one of our best players therefore I want to go as I don't believe the clubs heading in the right direction. Again, Leeds are likely to lose two top players from this, very influential players.

"Last season was very difficult and I guess its good to have the money in at the football club, but spending it wisely is not going to be easy, and getting the quality they need is not going to be easy. Jesse Marsch's is now under that little bit of extra pressure to hit the ground running when the season starts."
