Leeds United leave futures up in the air with retained list and two first-teamers in limbo

Five years at Leeds United could come to an end for Adam Forshaw this month with confirmation he is yet to be offered a new deal as his contract expires this month. Joel Robles is also yet to be offered fresh terms despite his current deal expiring on June 30.

The pair, 31 and 32 respectively, have, however, been invited to attend pre-season training when the first team returns in July. The Whites have released their retained list and confirmed Robles and Forshaw will be released as it stands, but there are plans to offer them new terms.

Forshaw arrived in January 2018 when Thomas Christiansen was in charge at Elland Road. Injuries would, unfortunately, become a feature of the midfielder’s time with United.

A hip injury in 2019 would keep him on the sidelines for two years, though he did eventually return to play a part in the top flight for the Whites. After five-and-a-half years with the club, Forshaw sits on 91 senior appearances and no goals in that time.

Robles only arrived last summer as a back-up goalkeeper for Illan Meslier, though he would eventually add to two cup starts with four league appearances under Sam Allardyce last month. It remains to be seen if either player is offered new terms or whether they even accept them.

Stuart McKinstry, who arrived from Motherwell as a teenager in 2019, will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month. He spent last season on loan with his former club in Scotland.

Nineteen-year-old goalkeeper Will Brook has also been released without making a senior appearance. Meanwhile, 18-year-old defender Scott Godden has been offered his first professional deal.

Scholars Ben Andreucci and Jay Buchan have been released.

A club statement said: “Both Adam Forshaw and Joel Robles have been invited back to the club for pre-season training, when the first team return in July. We would like to express our thanks to those players who will leave the club in the coming weeks and wish them well for the future.”
